Felix Mendelssohn (1809 -1847) - he is one of the most popular composers of the romantic era. The son of a financier had a comprehensive education in music as well as philosphy and history. Very famous throughout Europe during his lifetime his works were rarely played later in the 19th century. In the mid of the 20th century his works were rediscovered for performances and recordings.
